Green Canyon High School Newsletter
December 2024
Dear Students and Families,
How is it possible that it’s already December? This school year is flying by! With just three weeks of school left before Winter Break, we still have so much learning and growing to accomplish this month.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended Parent-Teacher Conferences! Although it felt different having them later in the fall, it was wonderful to connect with so many of you. We also appreciate your support of our School Book Fair—it helps us add even more books to our school library. A lot is happening over the next three weeks, so keep an eye out for updates from your child’s teacher!
Mid-Year Assessments
It’s already time for mid-year assessments. Students will participate in the following:
- Acadience Reading: Kindergarten through 5th Grade
- Acadience Math: Kindergarten through 3rd Grade
- iReady Math Diagnostic: 1st through 6th Grade
We encourage you to maintain a consistent reading routine during the holiday season. Reading holiday stories together, discussing new vocabulary, and predicting what might happen next are all excellent ways to support your child’s literacy skills.
The Bulldog Way: Focus on Respect
This month, our students will learn about responsibility, with a special focus on respect.
Respect means treating others how they want to be treated and caring about the thoughts, feelings, and rights of others.
At school, respect might look like:
- Not interrupting others
- Listening carefully
- Being polite and courteous
- Using an appropriate tone of voice and facial expressions
Here are some ways to discuss respect at home:
- What does being respectful mean to you, and why is it important?
- How can we be more respectful at home and school?
- Are there ways we can show each other more respect?
Winter Weather Reminder
Please ensure your child dresses for the winter weather. We go outside as often as possible, so warm coats, gloves, and hats are essential. Don’t forget to write your child’s name inside their jackets! Our lost and found grows quickly this time of year, and we’d love to return lost items to their owners.
