FERPA

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. It grants parents certain rights regarding their children's education records, including the right to access records, request corrections, and control the disclosure of personal information. When a student turns 18 or enrolls in a postsecondary institution, these rights transfer to the student. FERPA ensures that schools cannot share student records without written consent, except in specific cases such as school transfers, audits, or emergencies.

For more information, visit the U.S. Department of Education's FERPA Page.
